Emerald Cave Kayak Guide: Worth It from Vegas?

This is a solid half-day adventure if you want to get out of Vegas and onto the Colorado River. You paddle roughly 4 miles round-trip through Black Canyon to reach Emerald Cave, a striking grotto where the water turns a vivid green when the light hits it right. The trip includes calm paddling, some light current, and a short swim or float at the cave. Expect beautiful canyon walls, occasional bighorn sheep on the cliffs, and a surprisingly peaceful experience once you're away from the launch area. The whole thing usually takes 4–5 hours including transport.

Best time is March–May or September–early November when it's not brutally hot. Summer trips run but start very early and still feel like a furnace; winter can be chilly on the water. Expect to pay around $120–$180 per person depending on whether you add hotel pickup from the Strip. Guided kayak tours are the standard option; most include basic gear, water, and a snack.

Tip: Book the version with shuttle if you don't want to drive — it's worth it. Skip the add-on “VIP” or “sunset” options unless you specifically want to paddle at dusk; the regular morning tours give you better light in the cave and fewer crowds.
