The Giraffe Centre is a compact, well-run conservation site on the edge of Nairobi where you stand on a raised platform and hand-feed Rothschild giraffes pellets from your palm. Their long tongues and gentle faces come within inches of you—great for photos and for kids. Expect a short educational talk on giraffe conservation, a 20–30 minute wander along forest trails, and a small gift shop and café. It’s genuinely enjoyable for 45–90 minutes but not a full-day destination. The experience is simple, clean, and focused; crowds can build by 11am so earlier is noticeably better.
Best time is the dry season (June–October or late December–March) when roads are easier and animals are more active. Expect to pay around $10–15 per adult for entry if you go independently; children roughly half that. A half-day guided tour that adds the elephant orphanage and hotel transfers pushes the total to $80–150 per person depending on group size and vehicle. Tip: go independently by taxi or Uber if you’re staying in Westlands or the city center—it’s straightforward and saves money. Skip the combined tour unless you really want to see the elephants the same morning; doing just the giraffes keeps the experience relaxed and unhurried.
