Giraffe Feeding in Orlando: Worth It?

Feeding a giraffe up close is one of the better animal encounters you can do near Orlando. Expect a drive-through or guided experience on a working ranch where you’ll hand-feed giraffes from a raised platform or truck bed. The animals are tall, surprisingly gentle, and their tongues feel like sandpaper. Most visits last 60-90 minutes and include seeing other exotic animals. It’s genuinely fun if you like animals, but it’s a ranch setting, not a polished theme-park attraction. The experience feels more authentic than the staged encounters at some tourist traps.

Best time is winter (December-February) when it’s cooler and the animals are more active. Avoid midday in summer unless you enjoy sweating. Expect to pay around $60–$110 per person depending on whether you do the basic feeding tour or add a longer safari and photos. Kids are usually a bit cheaper. Book ahead, especially on weekends.

Pick the guided truck or platform feeding option so you actually get solid time with the giraffes. Skip the add-on “behind the scenes” packages unless you really want extra photos; they’re rarely worth the upcharge. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring hand sanitizer — giraffe saliva is thick and sticky.
