Should You Do a Habous Market Tour in Casablanca?

A Habous tour is basically a guided walk through Casablanca’s old French-built medina-style quarter. Expect narrow streets lined with shops selling olives, spices, babouches, teapots, and carpets. A typical experience lasts 1.5–2 hours and mixes quick history, a stop at the olive market for tasting, and a pastry or two. It’s pleasant and low-pressure compared with Marrakech’s medina, but it is still a tourist area—some shops will gently push sales. The atmosphere is calmest in the morning when it feels more like a working neighborhood than a souvenir runway.

Best time is spring (March–May) or fall (October–November) when it’s not too hot to walk. Expect to pay around $15–35 per person for a small-group walking tour including a few tastings; private tours sit at the higher end. Add a bit more if transport from your hotel in the Ville Nouvelle or Corniche is included.

Honest tips: definitely try the olives and the almond pastries—both are genuinely good here. Skip the carpet or “antique” dagger shops unless you really know what you’re buying; the hard sell isn’t worth the time. If you’re short on energy, just go independently in the morning with a good map app and stop at the bakery and olive stalls yourself.
