The hanging bridges walks outside Liberia take you through tropical rainforest on the slopes of volcanoes like Tenorio or Rincón de la Vieja. Expect a 1–2 hour hike with several suspension bridges up to 20m high that sway as you cross. The paths are mostly well-maintained but can be muddy and steep in places. You'll stop frequently to spot sloths, howler monkeys, birds, and plenty of plants. It’s not adrenaline-pumping like a zipline; it’s calmer and more about the forest itself. Some tours add a short river wade or waterfall visit afterward. The bridges themselves are the highlight, giving you a canopy-level view most people never get.
Best time is the dry season (December to April) when trails are less slippery and wildlife is easier to see. June–November is greener but expect afternoon rain and slick bridges. Expect to pay around $60–95 per person including transport from Liberia, a guide, and entry. Private tours or add-ons push it toward the higher end.
Pick the smaller, less crowded sanctuaries over the big operations if you want a quieter experience with better guide attention. Skip combining it with ziplining on the same morning; you’ll be rushed and tired. Bring good walking shoes with grip, insect repellent, and a waterproof cover for your phone or camera.
