Should You Visit Humayun's Tomb?

Humayun's Tomb is a large, peaceful Mughal garden-tomb complex that feels like a quieter, earlier version of the Taj Mahal. Expect red sandstone buildings, symmetrical charbagh gardens, and some beautiful tilework. It takes 60-90 minutes to walk around properly. The site is well-kept but not air-conditioned; you'll be outside in the sun or dust most of the time. It's genuinely worth seeing if you like historical architecture or want a break from Old Delhi's intensity, but skip it if you're short on time or not into monuments.

Best time is October to March when Delhi weather is cool and dry. Avoid April-September unless you enjoy 40°C+ heat. A half-day private tour that includes Humayun's Tomb plus one or two other sites is the easiest way for most travelers. Expect to pay around $45-90 total per person for a half-day tour including transport and guide, or $8-12 for just the tomb ticket and taxi if you're comfortable navigating on your own. Foreigner tickets cost more than local ones and are bought at the gate or online.

One honest tip: combine it with nearby Isa Khan's Tomb or Sunder Nursery for a relaxed morning without feeling rushed. Skip the overpriced audio guide and just use the free plaques or a decent guide who actually explains the history instead of reciting dates.
