It's exactly what it sounds like: a walk-in freezer turned bar with ice walls, ice sculptures, and ice seats. You get handed a heavy parka and gloves at the entrance, then spend 20-45 minutes inside drinking colorful cocktails from ice glasses while trying not to shiver. The whole "tour" usually lasts about 2.5 hours when you count the briefing, photos, and the warm-up bar area outside the actual ice room. It's fun for the first 15 minutes, especially if you've never done anything like it, but it gets old fast once your toes go numb. Expect a touristy, slightly cheesy experience with loud music and groups posing for selfies.
Best time is December through February when it's actually cold outside; the contrast feels more ridiculous and therefore more memorable. Avoid summer unless you really love irony. Expect to pay around $50–$80 per person including one drink; packages with extra cocktails or skip-the-line access push it toward $100+.
Tip: Order the simpler drinks (straight liquor or basic mixed) because the elaborate ones taste mostly like melted ice and food coloring. Skip the souvenir photos they try to sell you on the way out; your phone works fine and looks less staged. If your group has anyone under 21 or who hates cold, this is skippable.
