Jiufen Yehliu Pingxi Day Tour from Taipei

This full-day trip from Taipei combines three very different northeast Taiwan experiences. First stop is usually Yehliu Geopark where you walk among bizarre rock formations shaped by wind and waves; it takes about 90 minutes and can feel crowded. Then you head to Jiufen, a former gold-mining town now packed with teahouses and narrow alleyways built into steep hillsides. The atmosphere is lively but very touristy. The day ends at Pingxi where you release a sky lantern (usually included) along the old railway track. Total time away is 10–12 hours including pickup and drop-off at your hotel. The van or small bus is air-conditioned and the guide handles all logistics.

Expect to pay around $80–130 per person depending on group size and whether it’s a small-group tour or larger bus. Spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) are the best times; summers are hot and humid, winters can be rainy and windy which actually makes the lantern photos look atmospheric but the rocks at Yehliu get slippery. One honest tip: skip the overpriced gold-panning activity at Pingxi if offered and spend the extra time wandering Jiufen’s back alleys instead. Another: bring your own water and snacks—Yehliu has almost nothing decent to eat and the restaurants in Jiufen are mostly average and expensive.
