Geneva’s public lake baths give you a straightforward, no-frills combo of cold lake swimming and hot sauna right on the water. Expect clean but basic facilities: wooden piers to jump from, changing rooms that get crowded, and a traditional Finnish-style sauna with big windows overlooking the lake and Jet d’Eau. In summer the water is refreshing (18–22°C); in winter it’s properly cold (4–8°C) and the contrast with the sauna feels dramatic. The whole experience is popular with locals, so it’s social rather than peaceful.
Best time is late spring through early autumn if you mainly want to swim. Serious winter sauna users go from November to March when the temperature difference is strongest. Expect to pay around CHF 8–18 for a simple swim + sauna entry; add a bit more if you want a towel rental, massage, or food at the on-site café. Half-day or full-day tickets are usually the best value.
Pick the main public baths at Paquis for the classic experience and best views. Skip overpriced “wellness” packages or private cabanas unless you really hate sharing space. Bring flip-flops, a quick-dry towel, and €5–10 in cash for lockers. Go early or late in the day to avoid the biggest crowds.
