Should You Tour the Denver Mint?

The Denver Mint tour is a straightforward 45-minute guided walk through the facility that focuses on U.S. coin history, minting processes, and the building’s role since 1906. Don’t expect to watch coins being stamped—security rules keep you behind barriers and away from the production floor. What you get is an informative talk, a look at old machinery, a small exhibit area, and the chance to see massive coin presses from a distance. It’s interesting if you like industrial history or numismatics, but it can feel dry if you’re hoping for a flashy factory experience.

Best time to visit is spring or fall when crowds are lighter and reservation slots are easier to grab. Summer fills up fast. Expect to pay around $0–15 per person once you factor in the “free” tour ticket, possible parking in lower downtown, and any small donation or add-on exhibit fee. Tours run weekdays only and require booking weeks ahead.

Tip: Choose the earliest morning slot if you can—it’s quieter and guides tend to spend more time answering questions. Skip the gift shop unless you really want a pressed penny or generic souvenir; the real value is in the tour itself, not the overpriced coins and mugs at the end.
