The hike up Monserrate is a solid half-day commitment that gives you the best views of Bogotá. It's a steep, paved trail of about 2.5 km with roughly 1,500 steps; most people take 60-90 minutes going up depending on fitness and altitude. Expect thin air (it's 3,200m / 10,500ft), crowds on weekends, and a mix of locals, tourists, and vendors. At the top you'll find a church, decent food stalls, and panoramic views that stretch across the entire city on clear days. The walk down is faster but hard on the knees. It's a genuine workout with a payoff, not a gentle stroll.

Best time is the dry season (December to February or July to August) when rain is less likely and visibility is better. Go early in the morning (before 9am) to avoid the worst of the heat and crowds.
