The Salève cable car rises quickly from just outside Geneva to about 1,100m, giving you sweeping views over the city, the lake, and the Jura. The ride itself takes only a few minutes in a modern gondola. At the top you’ll find a handful of short walks, a cafeteria, and some observation points. On a clear day the panorama is excellent; on hazy or cloudy days it can feel like a lot of effort for limited reward. Expect a mixed crowd of locals, families, and tourists. The whole trip including bus from central Geneva takes roughly 90 minutes each way.
Best time is late spring through early autumn, ideally on a weekday morning in clear weather. Summer weekends get busy and the terrace can be crowded. Expect to pay around €25-35 per adult for a return ticket including local transport; kids and seniors pay less. Skip the overpriced snacks at the summit and bring your own picnic instead. Pick the short loop trail to the viewpoint rather than staying near the station – it’s only 15-20 minutes and gives the best perspective without much effort.
