Mountain Hiking Tours in Seoul: What to Know

Expect a solid half- or full-day workout with real elevation gain, mixed with temple views, city panoramas, and stretches that feel surprisingly remote even though you're never far from Seoul. Most tours combine moderate-to-strenuous hiking (think 4–8 km with 400–800 m elevation) and cultural stops like Buddhist temples or old fortress walls. Groups are usually small and move at a steady pace; you'll finish tired but with that clean, endorphin-heavy feeling. Weather can shift quickly on the ridges, so wind, heat, or sudden rain are normal.

The best time is spring (April–May) for cherry blossoms and autumn (mid-September to late October) when the foliage is at its peak and temperatures are comfortable. Summers are hot and humid, winters can be icy and slippery. Expect to pay around $60–$130 per person depending on whether it's a group tour, private guide, or includes lunch and transport. Simpler half-day hikes from central Seoul sit at the lower end; full-day private trips with meals push higher.

Pick Bukhansan or Inwangsan/Bugaksan routes if you want convenient access and good views without leaving the city. Skip anything that adds Nami Island or far-off Mt Seorak unless you specifically want a long bus day – those feel more like packaged sightseeing than actual mountain hiking. Bring your own water and wear proper hiking shoes; the trails are rocky and can be crowded on weekends.
