Is Namsan Tower Worth It?

Namsan Tower sits on a hill right in the middle of Seoul and gives you 360-degree views of the city. Expect a decent but not mind-blowing panorama; on clear days you can see forever, on hazy or polluted days the view is mediocre. Most people ride the cable car up (it’s quick and scenic), though you can hike the trail if you want exercise. At the top there’s an observation deck, a few cafés, gift shops, and the famous padlock wall. It gets very crowded on weekends and evenings, especially with couples. The whole visit usually takes 1–2 hours once you’re at the base.

Best time is late afternoon through sunset in spring or autumn when the air is clearer and temperatures are comfortable. Summer is hot and humid, winter can be freezing with strong wind at the top. Expect to pay around $15–25 per person total, covering cable car round-trip and observatory entry; food and drinks at the top add extra. Skip the overpriced rotating restaurant and the mediocre wax museum. Do buy a drink or ice cream at the café with the big windows, grab your photos, then head back down before it gets too packed. It’s a solid Seoul classic if you’re not expecting perfection.
