Neuschwanstein Castle Tour from Munich

Expect a long day. The drive or train ride from Munich to Füssen takes about two hours each way, so you're looking at 10–12 hours total. The castle itself is stunning from the outside but the interior tour is short—only 20–25 minutes with a guide herding you through crowded, ornate rooms. Most people spend more time hiking up to the castle, taking photos from Marienbrücke, and grabbing a quick bite at the on-site café than actually inside the building. It's pretty but very touristy; don't expect a peaceful fairy-tale escape.

Best time is late spring through early fall (May–September) when the weather is decent and trails are open. Summer weekends get packed; shoulder months like May or September give you better odds of decent crowds. Expect to pay around €90–150 per person depending on whether you go by coach, train with a small group, or private driver. Tickets for the castle itself are separate and must be booked in advance.

Honest tip: Skip the combo ticket that includes Linderhof unless you're really into palaces—it's another hour away and makes an already long day exhausting. Pick the train option if you can; it's more relaxed than a big coach tour and you control the pace once you're in Füssen. Bring good walking shoes and download the castle audio guide app as backup.
