Should You Visit a Delhi Night Market?

Expect crowds, noise, and strong smells – both good and bad. Night markets in areas like Chandni Chowk or nearby bazaars turn into dense rivers of people, scooters, and stalls selling clothes, snacks, household goods, and cheap electronics. The vibe is chaotic but alive; lights are bright, music blares, and vendors shout. It's not relaxing, but it gives a raw look at how locals actually shop and eat after dark. Street food is everywhere – samosas, chaat, kebabs, and sweets – cooked in front of you.

Best time is October to March when evenings are cool. Go between 7pm and 10pm; earlier feels too early, later gets exhausting. Expect to pay around $8–20 per person total if you're eating and picking up small souvenirs. A solid meal of street snacks and a cold drink might run $4–7, while a tuk-tuk ride back to your hotel can add another $3–6 depending on distance and bargaining.

Honest tips: stick to busy stalls that look clean and cook food fresh in front of you – the busy ones usually have higher turnover and lower risk. Skip anything with raw vegetables or water-based drinks unless you're sure of the hygiene. Wear closed shoes you don't mind getting dirty and keep your phone and wallet secure in front pockets. If you're not comfortable in crowds, go with a local guide or friend.
