Expect a full day of walking, queues, and a strange blend of theme-park thrills and educational animal exhibits. The cable car ride across the mountain is genuinely nice on a clear day; the polar animals and shark tunnel are the main draws for most visitors. It gets crowded, especially around the animal feeding times, so plan on 7–9 hours if you want to do most things without rushing.

Best time is October to early April when it’s cooler and drier. Summers are hot, humid and packed with families. Expect to pay around US$55–75 for a standard adult ticket bought online in advance; add $15–25 if you want fast-track or a bundled transport pass from central Hong Kong. Kids and seniors get noticeable discounts.

Honest tips: buy tickets online the night before to skip the worst ticket line.
