Paddle Boarding Condado Lagoon: What to Know

Condado Lagoon is a calm, protected stretch of water right in San Juan with decent views of the city skyline and the old bridge. Expect flat water most days, lots of other renters and tour groups, and a mix of mangrove edges and open lagoon. It's genuinely beginner-friendly with almost no waves or current, though you will share the space with kayakers, water bikes, and the occasional jet ski on the edges. Tours usually last 1-2 hours and include basic instruction if you're new. The water is warm but not especially clear for snorkeling; you're mostly there for the easy paddle and the backdrop.

Best time is December through April when it's drier and the trade winds are steadier but not too strong. Mornings tend to be calmer before the afternoon breeze picks up. Expect to pay around $35-65 for a basic rental or $55-85 for a guided tour, with most people landing in the middle. Go for a small-group guided tour if it's your first time; the guides keep you away from traffic and point out a few things worth seeing. Skip the cheapest solo rentals unless you're already comfortable paddling and know how to get back if the wind picks up.
