Paddleboarding on Lake Geneva is relaxed rather than adventurous. You’ll stand on a wide board and paddle along the shoreline with views of the Jet d’Eau, the old town, and the Alps in the distance. The water is usually calm close to the city, though light breezes and boat wakes can make things wobbly if you’re new. Most first-timers do a 2-hour guided outing that includes basic instruction; experienced paddlers can rent gear and go solo. Expect cool, clear water that feels refreshing in summer but chilly the rest of the year.
The best time is June through early September when water temperatures are tolerable and days are long. May and late September can work but bring a wetsuit top. Expect to pay around CHF 60–95 for a guided group session including board, paddle, and life vest; rentals alone run CHF 25–45 per hour. Private lessons cost more.
Pick a morning session before the lake gets busy with boats and wind. Skip sunset tours if you’re a beginner – the light is nice but chop and fatigue make it harder. Wear quick-dry clothes or a swimsuit and bring a towel; everything else is provided. It’s an easy, pleasant way to see the city from the water without needing great skill.
