Expect calm, protected water in Condado Lagoon with decent views of the city skyline and the old fort. Most tours last 1–2 hours and stay in the lagoon rather than heading into open ocean. It’s beginner-friendly with some wind and current to keep it interesting but rarely overwhelming. You’ll paddle past mangroves, see pelicans, and get a nice perspective on San Juan you don’t get from the street. Water is warm year-round; you’ll get wet and probably a bit sunburned if you’re not careful.
Best time is December through April when winds are lighter and rain is less frequent. Summer and fall can be flat calm some days but also bring afternoon showers and occasional rougher conditions from tropical weather. Expect to pay around $55–85 for a standard guided tour including board, paddle, and basic instruction. Longer or more customized trips push toward the higher end.
Pick a small-group morning tour if you want calmer water and fewer people. Skip the big party-style paddleboard “yoga” sessions unless that’s specifically what you want; they tend to be more about photos than actual paddling. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and a dry bag for your phone—most operators provide everything else but won’t remind you about sun protection.
