It's a full-day commitment—roughly 2.5–3 hours each way from Manila, plus time on the river. The main event is the upstream canoe ride through a dramatic gorge with towering limestone cliffs and jungle. Local boatmen paddle and pull you against the current; at the falls you can swim in the pool or take a short bamboo raft ride behind the curtain. The return trip downstream is fast and fun, basically shooting the rapids. Expect to get wet, possibly splashed a lot, and to spend about two hours actually at the falls and gorge. It's scenic but not a quiet nature escape—there are other boats, voices echo, and vendors wait at the end.
Best time is December to May when the water is clearer and the river flow is safer. June to November brings heavier rain that can make the trip rougher or occasionally cancel it. Expect to pay around $80–$160 per person depending on whether you go private, join a small group, or add lunch and extras. Private tours cost more but let you set your own pace.
Tip: choose a tour that includes the raft ride behind the falls if you want the classic photo—otherwise skip it and just swim. Skip any add-on “hidden valley” combo unless you really want two long drives in one day; it turns an already long trip into an exhausting one.
