Redwoods Forest Bathing from San Jose

Expect a slow, guided walk where a facilitator leads you through simple sensory exercises—sitting quietly, smelling bark, listening to water, walking barefoot if you want. It’s not a hike and not meditation class; it’s intentional time in the forest with almost no talking. The redwoods near San Jose are second-growth but still tall and atmospheric. You’ll spend 2.5–3.5 hours in the woods, usually with a small group of 6–12 people. The experience is calming but not magical—some people feel deeply relaxed, others just enjoy a peaceful walk without their phone.

Best time is spring (March–May) or early fall (September–October) when temperatures are mild and the crowds are lighter. Summer can be surprisingly warm and busier; winter is fine if you don’t mind possible rain. Expect to pay around $180–$280 per person for a half-day guided experience including transport from San Jose. Private sessions run higher.

Pick a morning tour so you’re back in the city by mid-afternoon. Skip the full-day versions that add long van rides unless you really want more forest time—most of the value happens in the first couple of hours. Bring layers, a water bottle, and an open mind; leave expectations of Instagram moments at home.
