Expect sweeping city views, a cool breeze, and overpriced drinks served in dramatic settings. Most rooftop bars are dress-code picky (no shorts, flip-flops, or tank tops for men), fairly crowded after 8pm, and louder than you’d think. The experience is more about the panorama and Instagram moments than quiet conversation or cheap cocktails. On a clear night the skyline looks impressive, especially from higher floors, but it’s fundamentally a tourist-oriented night out.
Best time is November to February when the weather is cooler and drier. Avoid March–May unless you enjoy sweating in formal clothes. Sunset (around 6–7pm) is the sweet spot for photos and slightly lower prices before the evening surge. Expect to pay around $15–30 per drink; a couple of cocktails and a shared snack can easily run $80–120 for two people. Some places add a cover charge or minimum spend after a certain hour.
Pick a bar with a view of both the river and skyscrapers if possible, and go early enough to grab a decent table. Skip the big organized rooftop bar-hopping tours unless you enjoy being herded between places with a group; you’ll get better value and flexibility doing it independently. Dress up a bit, bring patience for the elevator wait, and don’t expect local prices.
