Expect sweeping views of the endless concrete jungle, a mix of locals in smart-casual clothes and tourists, and decent but not mind-blowing cocktails. The best rooftops sit on top of higher-end hotels; they’re usually breezy, loud with conversation and background music, and packed on weekends. Sunsets can be spectacular when the pollution haze turns orange-pink, but the city itself rarely looks beautiful—just impressively massive. Most places have a dress code that’s enforced lightly: no flip-flops or shorts, but jeans and a collared shirt are fine.
Go between May and September for cooler, drier weather and clearer skies. Avoid January–March unless you like sticky heat and sudden downpours. Expect to pay around R$70–130 for a drink (cocktails and imported beers sit at the higher end) plus a cover that can run R$50–100 on busy nights. A couple of drinks and a shared snack will easily set you back R$300–500 for two people.
Pick a place with a view of the skyline at golden hour and order a caipirinha or a local craft beer—they’re usually the safest bets. Skip the overpriced food; it’s rarely worth it. If you’re staying at a hotel with its own rooftop, start there before heading elsewhere. One solid night is plenty unless you’re really into the scene.
