A Rosario Islands boat tour is a full-day escape from Cartagena’s heat and crowds. You’ll spend about 8–9 hours on a medium-sized motor boat with 15–40 other passengers. Expect a stop at Bocachica Fort, a decent snorkel session (gear provided), lunch on one of the islands, and a few swimming breaks at quieter cays. The water is clear and warm, the beaches are small and pretty, but it’s not a deserted paradise—there will be other boats and vendors. The ride back can feel long if the sea gets choppy or the music stays loud.
Best time is December to March when seas are calmer and visibility is better. July–November brings more rain and rougher water; June and November can still be decent but expect afternoon showers. Expect to pay around $80–$160 per person depending on whether you go with the basic shared boat or a smaller, higher-end option that includes better food and fewer people. Lunch and snorkel gear are usually included; drinks and tips are extra.
Tip: Choose the tour that visits Playa Blanca early or skips it entirely if you hate crowds—afternoon stops there get packed. Skip the “VIP” packages that promise private beaches; most still share the same stops. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, cash for extras, and earplugs if you don’t like reggaeton at full volume all day.
