Expect wide formal gardens, peaceful tree-lined paths, and a mix of restored palaces and pavilions. Łazienki Park is the largest and most popular: you'll see people picnicking, peacocks wandering, and the famous Chopin statue. The Royal Castle area offers smaller, more formal gardens right next to the Old Town. Both are easy to walk around on your own. In summer they can feel crowded with families and tour groups; in winter they're quiet, sometimes snowy, and more atmospheric if you don't mind the cold.
Best time is late spring through early autumn. May to June gives pleasant temperatures and blooming flowers. Expect to pay around $0–15 total per person: the parks themselves are free, so costs depend on whether you add a guided walk, castle interior ticket, or coffee in one of the garden cafés. A simple solo visit costs almost nothing; a private half-day tour with transport bumps it to the higher end of that range.
Pick Łazienki Park if you want space and nature; it's the one worth lingering in. Skip trying to see both parks plus the full castle interior in a single morning – you'll rush and enjoy neither. Bring water and comfortable shoes; the paths are mostly flat but you can easily walk 5–8 km without noticing.
