Sandboarding in Doha is usually part of a half-day or full-day desert safari. You’ll get picked up from your hotel in a 4x4, driven out to the dunes for 30-45 minutes of high-speed dune bashing, then taken to a sand dune field where you strap on a board and slide down. The actual sandboarding lasts 20-40 minutes depending on how many times you want to climb back up. Most tours also include camel rides, shisha, and a basic BBQ dinner if it’s an evening trip. The dunes aren’t as tall as in Namibia or Peru, but they’re fun for a first-timer and the whole experience feels properly desert-like without being too touristy.
Best time is November to March when it’s cooler and you won’t bake in 40°C+ heat. Summer trips exist but most people regret them. Expect to pay around $50–$90 per person for a standard afternoon or evening tour that includes transport, sandboarding, camel ride and dinner. Private or premium tours with better vehicles and fewer people push toward the higher end.
Pick the shorter afternoon version if you just want the sandboarding and dune bashing — the evening ones drag on and the “cultural show” is usually skippable. Skip the quad bike add-ons unless you specifically love ATVs; they eat into your sandboarding time and aren’t included in most base prices.
