A typical Santos beach tour is a full-day bus trip (about 7–9 hours total) that takes you from São Paulo down the serra to the coast. You’ll usually stop in Santos for a quick historic streetcar ride through the old center and a walk along the long beachfront garden, then continue to Guarujá for several hours at a beach like Pitangueiras or Tombo. Expect traffic on the way back, especially on Sundays. It’s not a remote paradise — these are working port-city beaches with cafés, vendors, and quite a few locals — but it’s the easiest way to see the ocean when you only have one free day in São Paulo.
The best time is March to May or September to November when it’s warmer but less crowded and rainy than peak summer (Dec–Feb). Expect to pay around US$60–95 per person for a basic tour including transport and guide; add food, drinks, and any beach chairs or umbrellas on top. Private or smaller-van options run higher.
Tip: Choose the version that spends most of the day actually at the beach rather than the one heavy on city sightseeing if your main goal is swimming. Skip the overpriced tourist restaurants right on the sand and walk a block inland for lunch. Bring sunscreen, cash for vendors, and a towel — many tours don’t supply one.
