Dubai offers surprisingly decent diving for a desert city. Most trips head to the East Coast (around Fujairah) or the Musandam peninsula, where you'll find coral reefs, wrecks, and decent marine life like nurse sharks, turtles, and rays. Visibility is usually 10-20m, nothing tropical-paradise level but perfectly fine for a few days of diving. Boat trips are comfortable and well-organized; expect a full-day outing with two dives, lunch, and a mix of experienced divers and curious tourists. It's not remote wilderness diving — you're never far from development — but the underwater variety beats sitting by the hotel pool.
Best time is November to April when water temperatures are 23-27°C and air isn't scorching. Summer diving is possible but brutal (water hits 32°C+ and visibility drops). Expect to pay around $120-180 per two-dive day trip including gear and transfers from Dubai. Liveaboard options to Musandam run $400-650 for a weekend. One solid tip: choose East Coast day trips over Dubai's local wrecks unless you're desperate for convenience — the reefs are noticeably better. Skip trying to combine diving with heavy partying the night before; the early pickup and boat ride will punish you.
