Expect a short training session followed by 1–2 hours gliding along paved paths while a guide shares basic history and celebrity gossip. The Santa Monica/Venice Beach route feels most vacation-like — ocean breeze, bike path, boardwalk people-watching — whereas Miracle Mile or Beverly Hills tours put you on city sidewalks next to traffic and stoplights. It’s fun once you trust the machine, but it’s more “pleasant urban scoot” than thrill ride. Groups move at the pace of the slowest rider, so don’t expect to cover huge distances.
Best time is spring or fall; summer mornings still work if you book the earliest slot, but midday heat on asphalt is no fun. Expect to pay around $100–$180 per person depending on group size and whether it’s private. Longer beach tours sit at the higher end.
Pick the Santa Monica–Venice option if it’s your first time on a Segway and you want scenery; skip Beverly Hills unless you’re staying there — the route feels more like a chore than a treat. Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes and bring a light layer; helmets are provided and actually used.
