Snorkeling with sea lions in Los Cabos usually means a boat trip to rocky spots near the Arch or, better, a longer ride to Espiritu Santo Island near La Paz. Expect curious young sea lions to zoom around you, nibble your fins, and play like underwater puppies while you float in reasonably clear water. The animals are wild but habituated; most encounters last 20-40 minutes. The boat ride can be choppy, especially in the afternoons, and you’ll share the site with other groups. Water is cool to cold outside summer, so wetsuits are provided and genuinely needed.
Best time is May through November when the sea lions are most active and the water is warmer; winter offers calmer seas but fewer playful juveniles. Expect to pay around $120–$220 per person depending on whether it’s a quick Cabo trip or a full-day Espiritu Santo excursion that includes lunch and beach time. Cheaper harbor tours are shorter and more crowded.
Pick the Espiritu Santo trip if you want a real wilderness feel and better chance of swimming with bigger colonies; skip the generic sunset boat that only stops at the Arch for ten minutes if you actually want to snorkel properly. Bring your own mask if you have a good fit—rental gear is often well-used.
