Expect a full-day boat trip from Nadi that takes you to small islands or reefs north of the mainland. Most tours run 6–9 hours and include two or three snorkel stops, basic lunch, and time on a beach. The water is warm and clear when conditions are good, and you’ll likely see colorful reef fish, small rays, occasional turtles, and reef sharks that are harmless but get the adrenaline going. The boat rides can be choppy, especially if the wind picks up, and the groups are usually 8–20 people. It’s a solid half-day in the water with some downtime, not a remote wilderness experience.
The best time is the dry season from May to October when visibility is higher and seas are calmer. November to April can still work but expect more rain, wind, and lower visibility after heavy downpours. Expect to pay around $90–$220 per person depending on group size, inclusions, and whether they go to the closer reefs or the farther islands. Cheaper trips stay closer to Nadi; the higher-priced ones head farther north for better reefs and fewer day-trippers.
Pick a smaller-group tour that goes to the outer reefs if you actually want good snorkeling; the cheapest beach-and-snorkel combos are often crowded and the reefs can be average. Skip the add-on scuba options if you’re not already certified — the snorkeling itself is the main event and usually the better value.
