A sunset cruise from Nice is one of the better easy excursions on the French Riviera. You leave from the old port, motor west along the coast toward Èze and Cap Ferrat, and watch the sun drop behind the hills while the city lights come on. Expect 90 minutes to two hours of gentle cruising, usually with a glass of rosé or sparkling wine and a few snacks. The boat stays close enough to shore that the views stay interesting the whole time. It’s touristy but not tacky if you pick the right size trip; smaller boats (12–25 people) feel much more relaxed than the big sightseeing catamarans.
Best time is May–June or September–early October. The light is still good, the sea is usually calm, and you avoid July–August crowds and heat. Expect to pay around €45–75 per person depending on boat size, inclusions, and whether it’s a basic cruise or one with better wine and a light charcuterie spread. Private charters jump to €400+ for a couple.
Pick a smaller sailing or semi-private tour if you want decent photos and a peaceful vibe; skip the large party-style boats that blast music and pack in 80 people. Bring a light jacket even in summer—the wind can get chilly once the sun drops. Book something with free cancellation in case the mistral wind decides to blow.
