Saigon Sunset Mekong Cruise: Worth It?

A typical sunset Mekong cruise from Ho Chi Minh City means leaving the city by bus or van for about 1.5–2 hours, boarding a boat in the Mekong Delta, and cruising the river as the sun goes down. Expect a mix of scenery — palm trees, fishing boats, and villages — plus decent buffet or set-menu food, a few drinks, and live music that’s sometimes pleasant, sometimes too loud. The actual cruising time on the water is usually 60–90 minutes. It’s relaxing for most people but can feel a bit packaged if you dislike group tours. The return to Saigon usually gets you back around 9–10pm.

Best time is December to March when it’s dry and the evenings are cooler. Avoid the peak rainy season (June–October) unless you don’t mind heavy showers that can cut the sunset short.
