A Thames cruise is one of the easiest ways to see central London’s landmarks without fighting crowds on the Tube or walking for hours. Expect a relaxed boat ride passing the Houses of Parliament, London Eye, Tower Bridge, and the Shard, usually with a recorded commentary pointing out what you’re seeing. Most trips last 30–90 minutes. It’s genuinely pleasant on a clear day, less so when it’s cold and raining and you’re stuck inside a glass cabin with steamed-up windows. The experience is straightforward sightseeing, not a party boat or luxury dinner cruise unless you specifically book one.

The best time is late spring through early autumn (May–September). Evenings in summer give you golden hour light on the buildings and far fewer daytime crowds. In winter you’ll still get the views but expect grey skies, short days, and the need for warm layers. Expect to pay around £15–£28 for a standard sightseeing cruise; longer trips or those with food and drink push closer to £45–£70 per person.

Pick a simple one-way trip from Westminster to Tower Bridge or vice versa if you want flexibility to hop off and explore. Skip the overpriced dinner cruises unless you really want the meal; the food is rarely worth the markup and the windows can get reflective at night.
