Seoul Tower Cable Car: Worth It?

The cable car ride up Namsan gives you sweeping views over Seoul’s mix of skyscrapers, mountains, and the Han River. The trip itself lasts only about three minutes each way in a small gondola that can feel surprisingly steep. At the top you step out near the base of the tower with easy access to the observation deck, walking paths, and the famous love padlocks. Expect crowds, especially on weekends and evenings. The experience is straightforward and efficient rather than luxurious – it’s a practical way to avoid the winding bus road or a long hike.

Best time is late afternoon or just before sunset in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October) when the air is clearest and the city lights start coming on. In summer it can be hazy; winter offers crisp views but you’ll be freezing at the top. Expect to pay around 15,000–25,000 KRW per person for a return ticket depending on whether you buy on-site, in advance, or with any discounts. One-way is cheaper if you plan to walk down.

Tip: buy return tickets and go up in the late afternoon, then walk down the trail after sunset – the path is well-lit and the views on the descent are surprisingly good. Skip the overpriced cafés at the top and eat before or after in the Myeongdong area instead.
