Tower of London: Worth It?

The Tower of London is one of those places that delivers exactly what it promises: thick stone walls, ravens, armor, and the Crown Jewels. Expect crowds even on quiet days. The site is large, involves stairs, and takes most people 3–4 hours if you want to see the jewels, Yeoman Warder (Beefeater) tour, and main towers without rushing. The Beefeater tours are genuinely good – funny, informative, and the best way to understand the place. The Crown Jewels queue can be the biggest drag; go early or late in the day to shorten it.

Best time is shoulder season (March–May or September–October). Summer is packed and hot inside the buildings; winter is cold but far quieter. Expect to pay around £35–£55 per adult depending on whether you buy a simple ticket or a timed guided tour that includes priority access. Add food and transport and it’s an expensive half-day.

Tip: Take the first Beefeater tour of the day and head straight to the Crown Jewels right after. Skip the Royal Armouries gallery if you’re short on time or not into weapons – it’s the least interesting part for most visitors. Wear comfortable shoes; the cobblestones are murder on your feet.
