Traditional Tea Ceremony in Casablanca

A traditional Moroccan tea ceremony in Casablanca is a relaxed, seated experience lasting 30–50 minutes. You’ll sit on cushions around a low table while a host (usually a local woman) prepares mint tea the proper way: pouring from a height to create foam, adding fresh mint and sugar, and serving it with simple pastries or nuts. It’s more about hospitality and conversation than performance. Expect it to feel intimate rather than theatrical. The tea is hot, sweet, and refreshing; three small glasses is the traditional sequence (“first glass is like life, second like love, third like death”). Most experiences happen in riads, cultural centers, or private homes in the old medina or near the Hassan II Mosque area.

Best time is spring (March–May) or autumn (October–November) when the weather is pleasant for sitting indoors or on a terrace. Avoid midsummer afternoons when it’s uncomfortably hot. Expect to pay around 250–450 MAD per person, usually including tea, cookies, and a short explanation. Private experiences for two or more tend to be better value and more relaxed than large group tours.

Tip: Choose a smaller group or private session if you want real conversation instead of a scripted talk. Skip any experience that advertises “belly dancing” or “folk show” with the tea — those are tourist packages, not traditional ceremonies. Go hungry enough to enjoy the sweets but don’t expect a full meal.
