Should You Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels?

Expect a half-day trip (4–6 hours total) that includes a bus ride out of the city, a guided walk through the site, and the chance to crawl through a short section of the real tunnels. The tunnels themselves are narrow, dark, hot, and humid—most people only do the 20–30 meter tourist section that has been widened. You’ll see trap doors, underground kitchens, and weapon workshops, plus a shooting range if you pay extra. It’s a mix of history lesson and mildly claustrophobic physical experience rather than pure adventure.

The best time is the dry season (December to April). It’s still hot but the ground is firmer and the tunnels are slightly less stifling. Expect to pay around $20–45 per person from Ho Chi Minh City depending on whether you go with a big group tour or a smaller, more flexible one. Private tours with just your party sit at the higher end.

Pick a morning departure so you avoid the worst heat and crowds. Skip the shooting range unless you really want to fire an old AK—it's loud, expensive, and adds little to the visit. Wear lightweight quick-dry clothes, closed shoes, and bring water; the experience is more interesting if you’re not already sweaty and miserable before you even go underground.
