Viking Splash Tour Dublin: Worth It?

The Viking Splash is Dublin's amphibious bus tour that drives you past the main sights on land before plunging into the River Liffey. Expect a 75-minute ride with a guide in a silly Viking helmet delivering dad jokes and decent history in equal measure. The "splash" part is fun for about 15 minutes; the rest is a standard city tour with the added novelty of floating past Guinness barges and under bridges while the vehicle bobs like a boat. It's genuinely entertaining for families and first-timers who want an overview without walking. Adults usually enjoy the humour more than they admit.

Best time is late spring through early autumn (May to September) when the weather is milder and departures are more frequent. Summer weekends get crowded so book the earliest slot you can. Expect to pay around €35-€55 per adult and €20-€35 for kids depending on season and whether you book online in advance. It's not cheap but the amphibious gimmick makes it more memorable than a regular bus tour.

Tip: sit on the right side of the vehicle for better river views and fewer glares from the low sun in afternoon tours. Skip the add-on photos they try to sell you at the end – they're overpriced and you can take your own. If you're short on time or on a tight budget, a regular walking tour or the regular hop-on hop-off bus will cover the same ground for less money.
