A Vltava river cruise is a relaxed, low-effort way to see Prague’s main sights from a different angle. You’ll drift past Charles Bridge, the castle, the National Theatre, and a string of pretty embankments. Evening cruises are noticeably better because the city lights turn the whole route into a postcard; daytime ones can feel a bit flat unless the weather is perfect. Boats range from large glass-roofed vessels carrying 100+ people to smaller ones with open decks. Expect 45–90 minutes of gentle floating, a recorded or live commentary (volume and quality vary), and the chance to buy overpriced drinks on board.
Best time is late spring through early autumn. May–June and September offer comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds than July and August. Expect to pay around $25–55 per person depending on time of day, boat size, and whether it includes a meal or just a drink. Evening cruises with a glass of wine or beer usually land in the middle of that range.
Pick a shorter evening departure that leaves around dusk; the light is magical and the trip doesn’t drag. Skip the dinner cruises unless you really want the novelty — the food is average and you spend half the time inside eating instead of outside looking at the city. Bring a light jacket even in summer; it gets breezy on the water.
