Expect a full-day trip leaving Nice by minibus or car, usually heading into the hills behind the city or over toward the Var for Côtes de Provence rosés and some solid reds. You'll visit two or three wineries, walk through vineyards, hear about local grape varieties and soil, then sit for a structured tasting with bread, charcuterie, and cheese. It's relaxed but educational—less stuffy than Bordeaux, more focused than a random bar crawl. Most tours run about 7–8 hours including transport.
Best time is April–June or September–early October when it's warm but not brutally hot and the vines look their best. July and August work but expect bigger crowds and hotter winery visits. Plan on paying around €90–€160 per person depending on whether it's a shared group tour or a private one with better wineries and a smaller group. Add a few euros if they include a proper lunch.
Pick a tour that visits smaller, independent producers rather than the big commercial houses; the difference in quality and conversation is noticeable. Skip anything that promises six wineries in a day—it's too rushed and you'll be tasting on autopilot by the fourth stop. If you're short on time or don't want to drink before dinner, just buy a good bottle at a Nice wine shop instead.
