San Jose Zoo & Amusement Park Guide

San Jose’s main option is a small combined zoo and amusement park that mixes modest rides, a decent animal collection, and play areas. Expect a relaxed half-day visit rather than a full theme-park blowout. The zoo houses about 140 animals including lemurs, big cats, and flamingos; the rides are tame—think carousel, small roller coaster, and spinning teacups—perfect for younger kids but nothing thrilling for teens or adults. It gets crowded on weekends and school holidays, with lines forming at the popular rides and animal exhibits.

Best time is spring or fall on a weekday morning; summers are hot and packed, while winter weekdays can feel almost empty but some rides may close. Expect to pay around $45–65 per person for entry and unlimited rides, or $25–35 if you only want zoo access. Food inside is overpriced, so plan to eat before or after. Honest tip: buy the combo ticket if you have kids under 10—they’ll want the rides. Skip the puppet theater unless you have very young children; it’s dated and rarely wows. Bring sunscreen, a stroller if needed, and leave by early afternoon before everyone gets tired and cranky.
