Expect a solid, well-kept zoo with good animal habitats, decent walking terrain, and plenty of green space. It’s large enough to easily fill half a day or a full relaxed one. Animals are mostly active in the morning; by afternoon many retreat from the heat or crowds. The experience is straightforward: lots of walking, a few indoor exhibits, and a couple of decent playgrounds for families. It never feels like a theme park, which is refreshing.
Best time is spring or early fall when crowds are thinner and temperatures are comfortable. Summer can get hot and busy; winter is quiet but some outdoor animals are less visible. Expect to pay around CHF 25–35 per adult ticket. Kids are roughly half price, and family tickets or combo options with public transport can shave a few francs off. Add CHF 10–15 for food and drinks inside.
Pick the morning slot if you can; animals are livelier and lines are shorter. Skip the souvenir shop at the exit unless you really need a plush penguin. If you’re short on time or not big on zoos, this one is nice but not essential for a Zurich city break. Bring comfortable shoes and water – you’ll cover a lot of ground.
