Dublin Zoo is a solid, compact zoo with decent habitats for lions, gorillas, snow leopards and a big African savannah section. Expect to spend 2–3 hours wandering hilly paths; it’s clean, well-kept, and the animals look in good condition. You’ll see keeper talks, a small petting corner, and a decent playground. It’s not huge compared to big European zoos, so it feels manageable rather than overwhelming. In summer it gets busy after 11 am; in winter you’ll often have whole sections to yourself but some outdoor animals are less active.
Expect to pay around €18–€26 per adult depending on season and whether you buy online in advance. Kids are roughly half price, under-3s free. Best time to visit is spring or early autumn on a weekday morning; you avoid both the summer crowds and the coldest, wettest winter days. One honest tip: head straight for the African Plains and gorilla enclosure first — they’re the highlight. Skip the small reptile house unless you really love snakes; it’s underwhelming and always crowded. Bring decent shoes — the paths are steep in places — and a rain jacket. It’s a pleasant half-day out, especially if you’re travelling with kids, but don’t expect a full-day wildlife spectacular.
