It’s more “hands-on animal interaction” than “spend all day wandering huge grounds.” Crowds are lighter than the theme parks but can still build up around feeding times. The experience feels more personal but also more commercial, with photo ops and add-on encounters pushed pretty hard.

Best time to go is winter (December–February) when it’s cooler and the animals are more active. Avoid summer afternoons unless you enjoy 95°F heat and sudden thunderstorms. Expect to pay around $35–$70 per person depending on which place you choose and whether you add any encounters or behind-the-scenes options. A basic ticket plus one paid interaction usually lands in the $50–$60 range per adult.

Honest tip: Pick a drive-through safari experience if you want to see the biggest variety of animals with minimal walking. Skip the smaller “petting” or “affection” sections unless you have young kids—they’re often overcrowded and underwhelming. Bring your own water and snacks; the on-site food is expensive and average.
