
The Alhambra is a palatine city and fortress complex in Granada, Spain, built beginning in 1238 CE and containing the most famous examples of well-preserved medieval Islamic architecture alongside Spanish Renaissance additions. Visitors see the Nasrid palaces including the Mexuar, Comares Palace, Palace of the Lions, and Partal Palace, which feature distinctive Moorish architecture with courtyards, water features, tile mosaics, carved stucco, and muqarnas vaulted ceilings, along with the Alcazaba fortress and nearby Generalife estate.
