The Begijnhof is one of the oldest inner courts in Amsterdam, founded during the Middle Ages and featuring 47 individual tall Amsterdam-style town houses, mostly with facades from the 17th and 18th centuries, centered around a private courtyard. Visitors can see historic architecture including the famous wooden house dating to around 1420, two churches (the Miracle Church and English Reformed Church), and gable stones with religious imagery reflecting centuries of Catholic and Protestant history.
