Checkpoint Charlie was the main Berlin Wall crossing point between East and West Berlin during the Cold War, located at the junction of Friedrichstraße with Zimmerstraße in the Friedrichstadt district. It served as the designated crossing point for foreign tourists, dignitaries, and Allied armed forces, and became a symbol of Cold War division after Soviet and American tanks briefly faced off there in 1961. The original American guard house is now displayed at the Allied Museum in Berlin.
