Elephanta Caves is a collection of rock-cut Hindu cave temples on Elephanta Island in Mumbai Harbour, featuring sculptures predominantly dedicated to the god Shiva, including the celebrated 5.45-metre Trimurti sculpture. Dating to between the 5th and 9th centuries CE, the caves contain high-relief stone carvings that narrate Hindu legends and demonstrate a syncretism of Hindu and Buddhist ideas, now designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
